Southwest Montessori School has earned a reputation for being one of the area's finest preschools. In addition to the traditional Montessori materials, monthly themes of study are promoted. Themes take many different forms: nature, holidays, history, etc. The themes are expressed in appropriate developmental and multidisciplinary approaches.

Since 1990, Southwest Montessori School has occupied its own intimate-sized building in a convenient location. The space is well suited for a Montessori learning environment.

Our building provides a wonderful space for the children to experience the many benefits of a Montessori education. The natural light and spacious main room encourage the children to move and feel at ease. The room offers many areas of activity and learning. It can easily be configured in various ways to accommodate different needs. 

The tiled east room allows us to organize effectively for food, art, and "messy" projects. Beyond the coatroom, a cozy smaller room provides us with space for storage of creative play and age-specific activities.

Our playground is a delightful, safe, multi-use space that allows the children to exercise and develop large-motor skills. We are surrounded by an interesting neighborhood for walks and exploration.

The diverse and experienced staff at Southwest Montessori are dedicated to creating and maintaining a quality Montessori education program in the southwest area of Minneapolis.

The third year or Kindergarten year in the Montessori Children's House is very important part of a child's development. We offer this program to children who attend for their 3rd year that focuses on more individual attention and a small group of children working cohesively as leaders in our environment. Following the sequence of the Montessori materials and development of each kindergartener, they are the leaders and teachers in our community! Children completing their first 2 years at a different Montessori school are eligible for enrollment for their kindergarten year.
